LeakMaster's Opinion

If you don't have Monier Concrete tiles on your existing home now, you probably can't reroof with Monier because your home may not be built to withstand the weight. If it can, then it is a very durable roof that has proven the test of time in Hawaii. If you have an old Monier roof, it can be recoated and made to last a long time--as long as the roofing felts are in good condition. Sometimes the felts burn up and turn brittle with age from the roof heat. If you are installing a new Monier roof we definitely recommend putting down a thick flexible "Self Adhered" underlayment that acts as the waterproofing barrier. Many of the lighter weight Monier tiles have had problems when the termite companies have had to tent the roof. Some of those guys are pretty big! We recommend sticking with the heavy weight tiles instead.
