" Look
all around you, these are, by far, the most popular
sloped roofs in Hawaii. I even put this up on my
own home. I could have chosen a more expensive,
exotic roof--but frankly, I didn't want all the
hassles. Plus, I'm cheap. My
advice, even for other cheapskates, don't go
with the 20-25 year systems unless you're really
under the gun. For just a few dollars more, go for
the 40 year shingle which is much better against the
wind and sun. Oh yeah, always ask which shingles
offer Algae Resistance
Warranties before ordering a shingle, it's an
important feature."

gorgeous looking shingles that are thick, heavy
and have a Deep Shadow look which is popular.

The Owens Corning PRO 50 has a 90 Year Wind
warranty.

If
your going to get these
shingles, I recommend getting stainless fasteners
so that they last as long as the shingles do.

Here we've torn off an old wood shake roof, exposing the frame.
Now we're installing new, treated plywood to cover the spaced sheathing, in
prepartion for installing a new Asphalt / Composition shingle roof.
How to Lessen the Impact of a Hurricane:

Most roofers only use 4 fasteners per shingle when installing a new
roof. At LeakMaster we recommend 6 fasteners per shingle as recommended by architects after Hurricane Andrew in Florida. While we don't guarantee against blowoffs by a hurricane (no contractor does, to my knowledge) our system does give you the best protection available for an asphalt shingle roof.
Before you buy a shingle roof, ask your estimator about the wind resistance ratings of the various shingles by the Manufacturer. They vary a lot: starting from 60 mph for the economy version, up to 110 mph for the
Brai Majestic shingle. We also like the
Malarky Hurricane Shingle and the
